To fulfill a long-felt need in the Sri Lanka Malay community, a group of dynamic ladies of vision banded themselves to form an association, the Women’s Association of Sri Lanka Malays (WASLAM) Persatuan Wanita Melayu Sri Lanka. By addressing the needs and interests of women in their role towards building close ties, we will aspire to create a community of excellence. The inaugural general meeting for the formation of WASLAM took place on 4th April 2010 at the Sasakawa Hall in Colombo 3, when the office-bearers of the Board of Management were elected for a two-year period 2010-2012.

Regional Representatives in Kandy, Hambantota, Nawalapitiya, Badulla and Nuwara Eliya were appointed, so that we can interact with Malay ladies at grass-roots level in the provinces.  We intend to co-ordinate our activities to eventually include Malay ladies from every part of Sri Lanka.
